Electropherograms, The Seven Deadly [Curable] Sins, 2008-2010

The history of visual art is replete with interpretations of the "Seven Deadly Sins"; Bosch, Bruegel and Dix to Chagall, Cadmus, Nauman and others; From deeply terrifying and fantastical to intellectual and whimsical.

Here, the expressive human impulse has been erased and we encounter each of the "Seven Sins" as scientific data: charts of human DNA sequences from which the work suggests that they originate.

The sins have been isolated at the genetic level: cataloged, demystified and patented for commercial use. A purely modern view of this richly visited and sacred subject matter has been brought to light, shattering traditional conceptions of both art and religious systems.
